A Christmas Gift for You
It's here. The Christmas holiday season is in full force. The school vacation period has begun, family gatherings have been organized, gifts are wrapped, and New Year's plans are in place. And, if you are a typical family, the stress level is rising.
And you thought the holiday season was supposed to be peaceful and relaxing. Not so if you are worried about finances or whether or not the gifts you bought will be appreciated. Not if you are being nagged about the latest electronic game or snubbed by a family member. Not if your children are bored, restless, or unappreciative. Well, our wish for you this Christmas is peace and relaxation, even in the midst of chaos.
So here is our holiday gift to you---we hereby grant you permission to lighten up.
You don't have to create the perfect Christmas. You don't have to be the perfect parent. It is not necessary that you buy your children everything they want. You get to keep it simple. Standing up to and resisting friends and relatives who engage in guilt-laden manipulation is permitted. You can put your needs and those of your family first.
You can maintain your normal routine and resist the hectic pressure around you. You get to remain calm and centered, and you're allowed to create fun and the degree of excitement you and your family can handle. You don't have to be all things to all people and bend to all the demands that are placed on you. This is your Christmas, your holiday season, and you can create it any way you desire.
Relax, lean into it, enjoy, and create the peace and rejuvenation you deserve.
Warmly,
Chick Moorman and Thomas Haller
